For over 30 years, the Friends of the Beaverton City Library has been dedicated to:
We accomplish this mission by both fundraising and selling affordable, gently used books and audio-visual materials donated by the public at: The Book Corner, The Friends of the Beaverton City Library’s used book store, bi-annual sales held at the library, and our online stores.
Our fundraising efforts are given to the Main Beaverton City Library and the Murray-Scholls Branch Library every quarter. Each year, we work directly with the library to review what to support. Typically the funding raised is used to support physical assets such as: furniture, Maker's Space supplies, computers and printers, shelving, etc, and services such as training, The One Book One Beaverton program, the Book Mobile, and the yearly Teen Art contest.
We love supporting organizations throughout the community with donations of relevant books where the need is greatest. These organizations have included hospitals, transitional housing resources, and veterans affairs, as well as those supporting people experiencing houselessness, children of incarcerated parents, and those impacted by severe weather conditions (including the Beaverton Severe Weather Center and Southern Oregon Relief Team). In 2020 alone, the NFBCL donated 2,600+ books to such organizations, as well as Little Lending Libraries and the Beaverton City Library Grab & Go.
In addition to selling used books, the Book Corner has served both as a volunteer hub providing connections and skills and has become one of the largest stores accepting public donations of used media.
